Cambridge Elevating Home Elevators in California
Custom Cabs, Sold and Serviced Locally
Cambridge Elevating, for homes that need a custom cab
Cambridge Elevating builds residential elevators with a lot of room to customize. Cab sizes come in a range of widths and depths, drive types include electric and hydraulic, and there are glass-cab versions for homes where the elevator is part of the architecture. If you want an elevator designed around your house, rather than a house adapted to an elevator, Cambridge belongs on your short list.
Advantage Elevator sells, installs and services Cambridge Elevating in San Diego County and Orange County. We are a licensed California elevator contractor (CSLB C-11 #1027832), a Savaria Elite dealer, and we have been doing this for more than 20 years. Our Google rating is 4.9 stars across 300+ reviews. Because we sell several brands, we recommend the one that fits your home, not the one we happen to stock.
- Models: E50, Elmira, Heritage and Cambrian
- Drives: electric and hydraulic, including machine-room-less hydraulic
- Glass-cab elevators and a wide range of cab sizes

Where Cambridge fits in our lineup
We install several brands because no single elevator suits every house. Savaria is our main line, and for most homes it is the right answer. Cambridge is the option we reach for when the project has requirements that a standard cab does not meet: an unusual shaft size, a specific cab shape, a particular finish, or a design that has to blend with architecture the owner cares about.
If your project is more about simple retrofit than design, a Stiltz home lift or a Savaria Telecab may cost less and install faster. If you want the full range of choices, start with our home elevator overview.
Cab size options
This is where Cambridge stands out. Cambridge’s Elmira documents show how many configurations exist. The listed cab sizes (Cambridge does not state units on the document names, so confirm on the spec sheet) run from 32 by 54 up to 48 by 54 for an inline layout, 32 by 60 to 48 by 54 for a thru layout, 36 by 48 to 48 by 54 for an adjacent layout, and 44 by 42 to 60 by 42 for rear-rail cabs. The E50 is a compact 34 by 40.
The layout matters as much as the size. An inline cab enters and exits on the same side. A thru cab has doors on opposite sides. An adjacent cab has doors on two neighboring walls. Which one you need depends on how the landings sit in your floor plan. We sketch it against your actual rooms during the estimate. For the exact size limits on any model, ask us for the current spec sheet.
Electric, hydraulic and MRL hydraulic
The drive type changes what the elevator needs from your house.
Electric. Electric drives are available on the E50, Elmira, Heritage and Cambrian. Ask us for the current spec sheet for noise, power and travel on each model.
Hydraulic. The Elmira and Heritage are offered with hydraulic drives. A traditional hydraulic elevator needs a machine space for the pump and tank.
MRL hydraulic. Machine-room-less hydraulic versions exist for the Elmira and Heritage, for homes where a separate machine room is not practical.
We explain the trade-offs on the estimate visit, including noise, space and power. Cambridge’s published design guides hold the exact figures. We pull the current guide for your model before we quote, rather than quoting from memory.
Glass cabs and design collaboration
A glass cab turns the elevator into a feature. In an open stairwell, a double-height entry or a home with long views, a glass car lets light through and keeps the space open. Cambridge builds glass-cab elevators, and we have the experience to place one properly: where the light falls, what the car looks like from each floor, and how the hoistway walls should be finished so the car does not look like it is moving through a box.
We work with architects, interior designers and builders. If your project is already drawn, send us the plans and we will mark up the hoistway and landing requirements. Our custom elevator finishes page covers wall panels, fixtures, doors and glass in more detail.
Installation, service and warranty
Advantage handles the whole job: design review, supply, installation, the building permit and inspection coordination with your city’s building department, and long-term service. Pricing depends on the model, number of stops and construction — see what a home elevator costs. A custom cab with specialty finishes sits toward the upper end of that range. We quote after a free in-home estimate.
After installation we keep it running. Our maintenance plans include a full inspection, safety-device testing and priority scheduling, and they satisfy the maintenance requirement in most manufacturer warranties. We also service Cambridge elevators installed by other dealers. See elevator brands we service for the full list.
