Home Elevator Company in Point Loma, CA
Sunset Cliffs, La Playa and Ocean Beach
Point Loma home elevators, from the bay side to the cliffs
Point Loma is a hilly peninsula with the ocean on one side, San Diego Bay on the other and a lot of homes in between that face one of them. The top of the peninsula is fairly flat at about 422 feet, while the edges drop off steeply. The result is a neighborhood where houses are built on slopes, entered from the street at one level and lived in at another.
Our crew works from 5857 Owens Avenue, Suite 300 in Carlsbad, and a drive down the coast brings us to Point Loma. We install, repair and service home elevators, stairlifts and platform lifts here, including in older bungalows, Sunset Cliffs view homes and bayside houses in La Playa.

Sunset Cliffs and La Playa: houses stacked for the view
The most expensive homes on the peninsula tend to be the ones that look at something. Sunset Cliffs houses face the Pacific from steep, eroding cliffs. La Playa homes along the bay look across the water toward downtown. Both build up and down a slope, with several levels connected by interior stairs.
These houses are well suited to a hoistway elevator. The floors already stack, and the stairwell gives a path for the shaft. The Savaria Eclipse has no machine room, so the footprint is modest. For a house with a view that you do not want to cover, the Vuelift has a glass or acrylic cab that does not block it.
Ocean Beach bungalows and Craftsman cottages
Ocean Beach is about one square mile of small old houses, many of them Craftsman bungalows built between the 1880s and the 1930s. Lots are narrow, ceilings are modest, and additions are usually modest too. Accessory dwelling units are a common way to add space, and the new second floor over a garage is a good place for a lift.
In an older cottage with a tight stairwell, a stairlift is often the practical choice, and it costs far less than an elevator. We quote after a free measure. For a small house where a hoistway will not fit but a lift between floors is wanted, the Telecab and Luma travel between two levels with no shaft.
Navy neighbors, Roseville and Loma Portal
The Navy controls roughly 1,800 acres on the peninsula, and many neighbors work there or have in the past. Roseville is the oldest part of Point Loma, and Loma Portal sits closer to the airport. Both have mostly single-family homes of mixed ages.
These are lived-in neighborhoods where people stay for decades, and where a house has seen several remodels. We service elevators of any age, including older ones from dealers who are gone. If your elevator has been quiet for a year, an inspection tells you what it needs before something fails.
Cliff erosion, fog and salt
The ocean-side cliffs of Point Loma erode, and the bay side sits in humid air. Both conditions affect elevators. Salt gets into contacts and boards, and a house near a cliff edge can shift very slightly over time, which can change how doors line up.
If a door that used to close easily has started to stick, call us. Door and gate faults are the most common reason an elevator refuses to move, and they are usually a quick fix when caught early.
Installing on a hillside lot, and checking the wiring first
Steep lots make logistics matter. Narrow streets, tight driveways and stairs from the curb to the front door all affect how a crew brings in a shaft, a cab and a drive. We plan deliveries around what your street allows, and we tell you ahead of time if a crane or a hand-carry will be needed.
Inside the house, a hoistway needs a clear vertical path, a pit at the bottom and overhead at the top. A shaftless lift needs a floor opening of a particular size. We measure all of it during the free estimate and give you a drawing with the dimensions your contractor will need.
Once the work starts, we handle the building permit and inspection coordination with your city, test the safety devices and take you through the controls before we leave.
A lot of Point Loma housing is old, and the wiring and panels in older homes may not suit a new elevator without an upgrade. Part of the estimate is a look at your electrical service. An elevator needs a dedicated circuit, and some models need a larger one than others.
If you already have an elevator, a maintenance visit is the cheapest way to find out how it is doing. We inspect the doors, the gate, the controller and the safety devices, and we leave you with a plain list of what we found.
Frequently Asked Questions
Do you serve Ocean Beach and Sunset Cliffs?
Yes. We cover all of Point Loma, including Ocean Beach, Sunset Cliffs, La Playa, Roseville and Loma Portal.
Can I add a lift to an old bungalow?
Often, yes. A stairlift or a shaftless lift fits many older cottages without major framing. We measure first and explain what works.
What does an elevator cost in Point Loma?
Pricing depends on the model, number of stops and construction — see what a home elevator costs. Stairlifts cost far less than an elevator, and we quote after a free measure.
Can an elevator be installed on a steep lot?
Usually. Floors on a hillside house already stack, and the stairwell often gives a path for the shaft. We check the structure before we recommend a model.
How soon can you respond to a stuck elevator?
Calls with a rider inside are dispatched immediately, day or night, from our Carlsbad office.
