Home Elevator Company in Coronado, CA
Planned for Sea Level and Salt Air
Coronado is an island, and an elevator here has to be planned for it
Coronado sits about sixteen feet above the water, and a good part of it is dredge fill from San Diego Bay. For an elevator contractor, that is the first fact that matters. Most hoistway elevators sit in a shallow pit at the bottom of the shaft, and a pit at sea level is a pit near groundwater. We plan every Coronado job with that in mind, and we choose the model and the pit depth to match.
Advantage Elevator is based at 5857 Owens Avenue, Suite 300 in Carlsbad, across the bay and up the coast, a short drive up the coast and across the bay. We install and service home elevators, stairlifts and platform lifts for Coronado homes, from Victorian houses near the Hotel del Coronado to canal-front houses in the Cays.

The pit question: sea level and a high water table
A hoistway elevator needs space below the lowest floor for the car to rest, and the model decides how much. Savaria lists pit depths from about 8 inches on the Eclipse (10 inches on the heavy-duty version) to 12 inches on the heavy-duty Infinity. Vuelift models range from a few inches to 12 inches, or an access ramp that avoids digging at all.
On an island built partly on fill, we look at the depth the ground allows before we choose. A soils report or an engineer may be needed. A through-floor lift like the Telecab or the Luma needs no pit, which can be the cleaner answer when the ground is wet. We tell you honestly if the numbers do not work for a particular model.
The Village, the Cays and the Country Club area
Coronado is not uniform. The Village has historic Victorian and Craftsman houses, with review rules that apply to changes. Coronado Cays is a canal-front community of newer multi-story houses with garages at the bottom and living space above. The Country Club area and the Glorietta bay side have large older homes on generous lots.
In a Cays home, the garage sits two or three stories below the main living space, and a hoistway is the usual answer. In a Village cottage, the footprint is small and a shaftless lift is more likely to fit. Our estimator will walk through your home and match the lift to the house.
Salt, wind and bay humidity
Coronado is surrounded by water on three sides. The air carries salt year-round, and it settles on door hardware, rail brackets and electrical contacts. Over time, that salt eats copper and aluminum terminals, which is where an elevator’s control wiring lives.
We keep a cleaning and inspection schedule that reflects how close you are to the water. The Cays and the bayfront streets see the most exposure. Expect us to clean and test the door interlocks, the gate switches and the safety circuit, and to check the battery lowering system at every visit.
A household that includes military families
The Navy is Coronado’s largest employer, and the island has a median age of 38.8, younger than most of our coastal cities. Even so, 21.0 percent of residents are 65 or older, and about half of the homes are owner-occupied. That mix means elevators serve very different households here: retirees staying in a multi-level house, and families with a grandparent, a child with limited mobility or a sailor recovering from injury.
We install stairlifts for homes with a single straight staircase and platform lifts for entry steps. Our wheelchair lift page covers platform options.
What a Coronado estimate looks like
An island job begins with questions that other cities skip. How deep did the neighbors have to dig? Does the lot sit on fill? Has the garage floor ever taken water? We ask them at the first visit, then measure the floors, the stair and the overhead.
After that, you get a written quote with a clear choice of model. For a Cays home with a garage two levels below the living space, that is usually a hoistway elevator. For a Village cottage on a small lot, it may be a Telecab, a Luma or a stairlift. For a bayfront house with a dramatic view, it may be a Vuelift with a glass cab, as long as the floor opening and the pit work out.
We cannot promise a permit outcome, and we do not guess at one. We prepare the plans, give your designer the dimensions, and coordinate the building permit and inspection with your city.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can an elevator go into a Coronado home with a high water table?
Often, yes, with the right model. We check the pit depth each model needs against what your ground allows. Through-floor lifts need no pit.
Do historic-district rules apply to an interior elevator?
Interior work usually has fewer limits than exterior work, but a shaft that changes the roof or exterior may come under review. We cannot promise an outcome. We prepare the plans and handle the permit coordination with your city.
How much does a home elevator cost in Coronado?
Pricing depends on the model, number of stops and construction — see what a home elevator costs. The price depends on the model, stops, finishes and the construction.
How long does it take to reach the island for an emergency?
Entrapment calls are dispatched immediately from our Carlsbad office. Other calls are scheduled for the same or the next business day.
Do you service the Cays?
Yes. We repair and maintain elevators throughout Coronado, including the Cays, Glorietta and the Village.
