Home Elevator Maintenance in San Diego, CA
Annual and Bi-Annual Plans
Maintenance plans for San Diego County home elevators
A home elevator carries your family up and down every day, and it sits unseen in a wall the rest of the time. That is exactly why it gets forgotten. Our maintenance plans put a licensed technician in front of it on a schedule, so small wear gets caught before it strands someone on the second floor.
We run the program from our Carlsbad office at 5857 Owens Avenue, Suite 300. Technicians cover the coast from Oceanside to Coronado and inland through Escondido, Poway and Fallbrook. Plan members go to the front of the line when something does go wrong.
- Annual or bi-annual visits, your choice

What the plan gives you
A full inspection every visit
Safety devices actually tested
Priority when you need us
What we inspect on every maintenance visit
Each visit follows the same list, whether it is your first or your tenth:
- Door and gate interlocks, contacts and switches
- Door operators, tracks, rollers and belts
- Emergency stop, alarm and communication device
- Drive system: motor, chain or cables, or hydraulic pump, valve and fluid, depending on your model
- Rails, guide shoes and the pit area
- Controller and wiring, including terminals for corrosion
- Leveling accuracy at each landing
- Limit switches and travel stops
- Cab lighting and fixtures
- Battery backup and lowering system
Anything worn is lubricated, adjusted or reported. We give you a written summary, so you have a record you can show an insurer, a buyer or a future technician.
Annual or bi-annual: how to choose
Annual is the baseline. It suits a lightly used elevator in a dry, inland location, such as a two-stop residence in Escondido, Poway or Rancho Bernardo, and it keeps the warranty requirement satisfied.
Bi-annual, two visits a year, is what we recommend for coastal homes. Salt air reaches the door contacts, relay points and controller terminals long before the owner can see damage. The beach communities of Oceanside, Carlsbad, Encinitas, Solana Beach, Del Mar and La Jolla, the bayfront side of Point Loma, and the whole island of Coronado all fall in that group. Heavy households that use the elevator many times a day, and households that depend on it for mobility, are also better served by two visits.
You can start with annual and move to bi-annual later. See the details on our elevator maintenance plan page.
Maintenance and your manufacturer warranty
Savaria covers its home elevators for 36 months against defective parts, through the local dealer. The warranty requires regular maintenance. Skip it, and a covered failure can turn into an argument about whether the elevator was cared for. Our plan visits are documented in writing, which is the record you need.
If you bought your elevator from us, the plan is the simplest way to stay inside the terms. If it came from someone else, we can still maintain it. Ask us what your manufacturer requires.
Battery lowering and power shutoffs in the backcountry
When the power goes out, a home elevator can stop between floors. The battery lowering system exists for that moment: it brings the cab to a landing so people can step out. It is meant for getting out, not for normal use.
In San Diego County, power outages are not just a storm issue. SDG&E can shut off power during dry, windy weather to reduce fire risk. That has affected backcountry areas and hillside neighborhoods, including communities around Fallbrook and Poway. Check sdge.com/ready for the current list of areas. If you live in one of those neighborhoods, we test the battery at each visit, replace it when it is due, and show everyone in the house how to use the manual lowering control.
If the power fails and someone is inside, call us on (833) 865-7887. We answer 24 hours a day.
Why maintenance costs less than repair
The parts that wear out in a home elevator, such as belts, door rollers, contacts and batteries, are inexpensive when replaced on a schedule. They get expensive when they fail in service and take other things with them. A dry door track chews a roller, a bad roller strips a drive belt, and a stopped elevator turns a small fix into an emergency visit.
Plan members also get the reduced rate on every visit. If your elevator is older and the first inspection finds items that need work, we list them in order of urgency. We do not frighten you into replacing what is fine. If it turns out a larger update makes sense, read about modernization.
Frequently Asked Questions
How often should a home elevator be serviced?
At least once a year. We recommend twice a year for coastal homes in places like Encinitas, Del Mar, La Jolla and Coronado, where salt air speeds up wear on contacts and terminals.
What does the maintenance plan cost?
Plan visits are $550 each, compared with $600 for a one-off service visit. The plan can be annual or bi-annual. Contact us for details on your specific unit.
Does maintenance keep my warranty valid?
The Savaria warranty runs 36 months against defective parts and requires regular maintenance. Our plan satisfies that requirement and gives you written service records.
Do you maintain elevators you did not install?
Yes. We service all major residential brands, including older units from manufacturers that have closed. We inspect first and explain what we find.
What if my elevator is stuck during a power shutoff?
Use the battery lowering system if your unit has one. If it does not work, call us at (833) 865-7887 any hour. Plan members receive priority scheduling.
