Stiltz Home Lifts in San Diego County, CA
Hillside, Beach and Tract Homes
Stiltz lifts for San Diego County homes, from our Carlsbad office
San Diego County has every kind of house that is hard to fit with an elevator. Hillside homes step down a slope in three or four levels. Beach cottages sit on small lots. Inland tract houses have one staircase and not an inch to spare around it. A Stiltz works in all of them for the same reason: it is a freestanding lift that comes apart into pieces, goes through your front door, and is assembled in the room with no shaft built around it.
We work from 5857 Owens Avenue, Suite 300 in Carlsbad. Advantage Elevator is a licensed California elevator contractor (CSLB C-11 #1027832) with over 20 years of experience and a 4.9-star rating across more than 300 Google reviews. We install Stiltz, Savaria and Cambridge Elevating, which means we can compare them honestly for your house.

Where a Stiltz makes sense across San Diego County
Each part of the county pushes a different problem at the lift, so we plan around the house, not the zip code.
Hillside homes in La Jolla and Point Loma. Houses on Mount Soledad’s slopes, around Sunset Cliffs and above La Playa often have living areas on several levels. A full elevator may be the better answer when you need three or four stops. When you only need to link two levels and the framing is tight, a Stiltz is worth pricing alongside it. On a slope, we look first at where the floor opening can land without touching a load-bearing wall.
Beach rebuilds in Carlsbad and Encinitas. Small coastal lots in the Village, Leucadia and Cardiff are being rebuilt as two- and three-story homes. If the plans are not final, bring us in now, because a traditional elevator is cheapest to build into new framing. If the house is already standing, a Stiltz avoids a demolition.
Inland tracts in Rancho Bernardo and Poway. Two-story homes from the 1970s and 1980s fill these communities, and plenty of owners want to keep their upstairs bedrooms. The staircase and the closet above it are usually the answer. In some Poway hillside and larger-lot homes there is room to choose a Trio with a ramp for a household that includes a wheelchair user.
Coronado. Island homes sit near sea level with a high water table, which makes a deep pit a poor idea. A lift that needs no pit sidesteps that issue. Older Village houses with historic character also favor a lift that leaves the walls alone.
Salt air, heat and fire season
Coastal homes see salty, damp air. Inland homes see heat and, in some years, smoke. A Stiltz is built to be used indoors in a normal house, so it faces the same conditions you do. We keep the electrical cabinet away from open windows and ask you to keep the cab and guides clean. During a coastal marine layer, wipe the cab walls and rails when you wipe your windows.
Power shutoffs matter here. The utility has cut power during fire weather in parts of the county. Most modern lifts include battery lowering that brings the cab to a landing so you can get out. It is meant for exiting, not for riding all evening. Ask us to demonstrate it on yours, and plan how you will move around the house if the power stays off for a day.
Permits and community approval
Putting a lift through a floor is construction. The city or county building department reviews the framing and the dedicated circuit, and we coordinate that building permit and the inspections for you. In La Jolla and other coastal or hillside areas, extra review can apply to projects that change the outside of a house. A Stiltz usually stays inside, which keeps things simpler. We cannot promise any outcome, but we will tell you in advance what to ask your architect or planner.
If your neighborhood has an HOA, as many Carlsbad and Rancho Bernardo communities do, send them our drawings before work starts. A short written request with the lift dimensions answers most questions.
Choosing a Stiltz or a different lift
A Stiltz is not always the best product, and we say so. If you want three or more stops, a custom cab or the biggest passenger capacity, a conventional elevator from Savaria or Cambridge Elevating may serve you better. If you only need to go up one short flight, a stairlift or a vertical platform lift costs far less than an elevator, and we quote after a free measure.
Our shaftless elevator guide compares the no-shaft options in plain language, and our cost page explains what moves the price. For every Stiltz model detail, see the main Stiltz page.
Installation timing and aftercare
Stiltz says assembly can take as little as one day. We treat that as the best case for the lift alone. Floor framing, electrical work, drywall and a permit inspection set the real calendar, and you get that schedule in writing before we order.
Stiltz lists a 24-month parts warranty on its lifts. Parts come from Stiltz and our technicians do the service work on your lift in San Diego County. Keep it on a schedule with a maintenance visit, and call (833) 865-7887 or use our repair team if it stops between floors. We also service Stiltz lifts installed by other companies, and the Stiltz service page lists what we cover.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is a Stiltz a good choice for a hillside home in San Diego?
It can be, when you need to link two levels and a shaft would cost too much framing. For three or four stops on a steep lot, a conventional elevator is often the better fit. We look at your plans and tell you which.
Does a Stiltz need a pit or a machine room?
No. It is self-contained, with the motor at the top and the cab on two guides. That is why it suits coastal homes with a high water table, such as parts of Coronado.
How much clearance does a Stiltz need?
It depends on the model. The Duo uses under 8.5 square feet of floor, and the Trio and Trio Alta need more. The Trio Alta needs an upstairs ceiling of at least 96 inches. We measure your exact spot before quoting.
What happens to a Stiltz in a power outage?
Battery lowering brings the cab to a landing so you can step out. It is meant for exiting, not for continued use. We test it when we hand the lift over.
Can you service a Stiltz that another dealer installed?
Yes. We service Stiltz and the other major residential brands across San Diego County. Call (833) 865-7887 and tell us the model if you know it.
