Stiltz Elevator Service & Repair in San Diego & Orange County
For Existing Stiltz Owners in Southern CA
Service for existing Stiltz home lift owners
This page is for people who already own a Stiltz. If you are shopping for one, our Stiltz home lifts page covers the models, the fit and the free estimate. Here we talk about what happens after the lift is in your home: maintenance, battery, rope and drum, doors and ramps, and who to call when something stops working.
Stiltz is an active company that began in the United Kingdom. Its US office is Stiltz Inc. in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania. Its lifts are shaftless, self-supporting units that run on two vertical rails and use a wire-rope hoist driven by a drum gear motor. They have no pit and no machine room, and they carry a battery backup. Advantage Elevator services Stiltz lifts in San Diego County from Carlsbad and in Orange County from Costa Mesa. We are a licensed California elevator contractor (CSLB C-11 #1027832) with more than 20 years in the business and a 4.9-star Google rating across more than 300 reviews.

Why a Stiltz still needs regular service
People buy a Stiltz partly because there is no shaft and nothing to build. It is easy to think the lift is therefore maintenance-free. It is not. The lift moves a person up and down on a rope, and the parts that carry that load, the rope, the drum, the brake and the safety devices, need to be checked on a schedule.
A maintenance visit from us covers the rope and drum inspection, the gear motor, the brake, the door and gate operation, the controls and the battery backup lowering. It ends with a full test ride. Stiltz lists a 24-month parts warranty on its lifts, and a warranty does not cover wear or a missed service. Check your paperwork to see what maintenance Stiltz expects. A maintenance plan keeps the visits on your calendar, with a $550 rate per visit instead of $600 and priority scheduling.
Common Stiltz problems and what we do
The lift will not move. The usual causes are a door or gate that is not fully closed, a safety switch that has dropped out, a battery that has run down or a loose connection. We check them in that order, because the cheap answers are the most common.
A new noise. A squeak, a groan or a rhythmic tick means something is rubbing, drying out or wearing. On a rope-driven lift, noise is worth a visit before it becomes a stoppage.
Stops short or lands unevenly. This can come from the position sensing, the controls or wear in the drive. We diagnose before we replace.
Ramp trouble on a wheelchair-capable model. Trio-family lifts used with a wheelchair rely on a ramp. If the ramp does not deploy, binds or does not seat, we check the mechanism and the sensors.
Power outage. Southern California utilities sometimes shut off power during fire season. The battery lets the lift complete a trip. If yours does not, test it now rather than during an outage.
Parts: direct from Stiltz
Stiltz parts come direct from Stiltz. That is a simple supply chain with one source, which is good when the company is active and responsive. We order the correct part for your model and serial number, confirm availability and give you the lead time before we quote. Stiltz offers several models, and parts differ between them, so we match the part to your lift rather than guessing.
We do not promise that every part is in stock at all times. If a part has to ship from the manufacturer, we tell you how long it will take and, where the lift cannot be used safely, we leave it safely off. We would rather tell you the truth than give you a date we cannot keep.
For the January 2022 federal child-entrapment announcement, Stiltz was not among the brands named. That is not a guarantee that no notice exists for any product, so if you want to be sure, check the Consumer Product Safety Commission’s recall list with your serial number.
Lifts we did not install
Many Stiltz owners call us because the original dealer is far away, has closed or has stopped answering. That is fine. We service Stiltz lifts regardless of who installed them. Our technician locates the data plate on the first visit, reads the model and serial number, checks the lift over and tells you what he or she finds. If you want to understand more about your own lift, our brand identification guide has general tips, and a residential elevator inspection gives you a written baseline.
Upgrades and when a Stiltz needs replacing
Most Stiltz problems are repair problems. A new battery, a replaced switch or a re-adjusted door usually brings a lift back to full service. If you find yourself wanting a larger lift, a different model or a full elevator, we will talk it through honestly. Our San Diego and Orange County modernization pages describe how we approach upgrades, and our Stiltz page covers the lineup if you are considering a second lift.
How to book
Call (833) 865-7887. A person answers, asks the model if you know it, asks what the lift is doing and whether anyone is inside. Entrapments go first. You can also use our online booking page for routine service.
Frequently Asked Questions
Do you service Stiltz lifts you did not install?
Yes. We service Stiltz and every other major residential brand in San Diego County and Orange County, whoever installed the lift. Call (833) 865-7887 and tell us the model if you know it.
My Stiltz will not move. What should I check?
Make sure the door or gate is fully closed, then check that the power to the lift is on. If the lift still will not move, the battery or a safety switch may be the cause. Do not force anything. Call us and we will diagnose it.
How often does a Stiltz need maintenance?
Annual service is a sensible minimum, and our maintenance plans offer annual and bi-annual visits. Check your Stiltz paperwork for the maintenance Stiltz expects, because warranty coverage may depend on it.
Where do the parts come from?
Parts come direct from Stiltz. We match the part to your model and serial number, confirm availability and give you the lead time in writing before work begins.
Where can I learn about buying a Stiltz?
Our Stiltz home lifts page covers the models, the fit and the free in-home estimate. This page is for service on a lift you already own.
