The Savaria Zenith: heavy capacity without a machine room

The Savaria Zenith is a machine-room-less (MRL) traction elevator. Three 10 mm steel cables run over a 1:1 sheave, driven by a geared motor mounted in the hoistway, so there is no separate machine room to build. Its headline number is capacity: 1,400 pounds as standard, matched among Savaria home elevators only by the Infinity HD. Savaria rates it at 56 decibels.

Advantage Elevator is a Savaria Elite dealer. We sell, install and service the Zenith from our Carlsbad and Costa Mesa offices. A fully installed traditional home elevator in Southern California typically runs Pricing depends on the model, number of stops and construction — see what a home elevator costs.

What sets the Zenith apart

1,400 lb standard capacity

Most home elevators are rated near 950 pounds. The Zenith carries 1,400 as standard, which gives a wheelchair user, a caregiver and a bit of gear real breathing room.

No machine room to build

Because the geared traction drive sits in the hoistway, you do not need to give up a closet-sized machine room elsewhere in the house. A closet plus a small controller space is enough.

Quiet and built for daily use

Savaria rates the Zenith at 56 dB and for more than 200 daily trips. That fits a busy household where the elevator runs every day, not once a week.

Who the Zenith suits in San Diego and Orange County

Wheelchair users and caregivers. With 1,400 pounds of capacity, a power chair and an attendant can ride together. That is common in aging-in-place households in communities like Rancho Bernardo, Poway, Mission Viejo and Laguna Niguel, where original owners of two-story homes from the 1970s through the 1990s now need the master suite on the main floor reachable without stairs.

Estate and custom homes. In Rancho Santa Fe, Coto de Caza, Del Mar and La Jolla, houses often have multiple levels, guest wings and large entry stairs. The Zenith carries up to five stops, so one shaft can serve a lower garage, main floor and upper floors, and it does not need a machine room taking up a room that is worth more as living space.

Homes where heavy loads are routine. A higher rating means less worry about the limit when luggage or equipment rides along with a passenger.

If you want an elevator with a simpler overhead requirement, compare the Savaria Eclipse, which needs 96 inches instead of 108. If you need a hydraulic system, see the Infinity.

Finishes and cab options

The Zenith uses the same finish range as the other Savaria hoistway elevators. Walls come in melamine or unfinished MDF as standard, with luxury MDF, routed white MDF, veneer and solid hardwood available. Fixtures are clear or bronze anodized, or white powder coat. Cabs are 36 by 54, 36 by 60 or 40 by 54 inches, 80 inches high, with 84 and 96 inch heights optional. See custom elevator finishes to match a cab to your cabinetry or trim.

Power and space requirements

Plan for a hoistway with at least 108 inches of overhead and a 10-inch pit. The controller needs a small space, typically on a lower level. The electrical service is either 208-volt three-phase at 30 amps or 240-volt single-phase at 40 amps, plus a 120-volt 15-amp circuit for lighting. A UPS handles lowering, lighting and the gate during a power outage, so riders can get out during wildfire-season power shutoffs. We check your panel and measure the stack of space on the free visit.

Warranty, installation and timeline

Savaria provides a 36-month warranty against defective parts through the dealer, which requires regular maintenance. Our maintenance plans include a full inspection and safety-device testing and satisfy that requirement.

The process is the same as for any hoistway elevator. We measure, quote, and handle the building permit and inspection coordination with your city’s building department. Then we frame the shaft if needed, set the rails, hang the cab, connect the power and finish with a test ride and a check of the battery-lowering system. Because a hoistway has to be built or prepared, plan on weeks rather than days; your quote includes a schedule.

Frequently Asked Questions

How much does a Savaria Zenith cost installed?

Pricing depends on the model, number of stops and construction — see what a home elevator costs. The Zenith falls in that range depending on stops, cab finishes and construction.

Why choose the Zenith over the Eclipse?

The Zenith carries 1,400 pounds standard, versus 950 or 1,000 for the Eclipse. If you need to carry a wheelchair and a caregiver, or heavy items, the extra capacity helps. The Eclipse needs less overhead (96 inches versus 108).

Does the Zenith need a machine room?

No. It is a machine-room-less elevator with a closet and a small controller space.

What happens to the capacity if I choose the faster speed?

Capacity drops to 1,000 pounds when you choose the 50 fpm speed upgrade. The standard 40 fpm keeps the 1,400 pound rating.

Do you service the Zenith after installation?

Yes. We offer annual and bi-annual maintenance plans with a full inspection, safety-device testing and priority scheduling, and we offer 24/7 emergency service.

Crystal did a great job in doing the yearly maintenance work on my personal elevator. She identified why the elevator stopped working. She showed me how to make the elevator go to the ground floor if stuck midway. She vacuumed & cleaned the space on the ground floor where the elevator sits; it was so filthy most likely because it was never cleaned by previous technicians. She's very nice & calm.
